About

Behind the Gimlet, just like behind the Gin Tonic and the Grog, is a story of sailors and medicine. In 1867, Lauchlin Rose produced the world's first bottled concentrated juice: Rose's Lime Cordial. Its innovation: preserving the juice by heating it with sugar. At the same time, the British navy recommended that all sailors should have a daily dose of lime to prevent scurvy. Then all you had to do was add a shot of gin, and voila!
