About

The Americano is said to have first been known as Milano-Torino and was created by Gaspare Campari in late 1860, inspired by the two cities where the ingredients come from: Milan for the Campari and Turin for the red vermouth. Probably because of its great popularity with Americans during Prohibition, the cocktail changed its name around 1930. It is the ancestor of the popular Negroni and one of the best appetizers possible when made with a vermouth stored in the refrigerator or freshly opened.
